Despite the commercialization of contemporary music, jazz remains a thriving global scene, with many talented musicians pushing the genre’s boundaries. To appreciate complex music, one must cultivate critical listening skills, focusing on individual elements like the bass line or drum pattern, and understanding their contribution to the overall sound. 

Understanding and writing complex music

Learning piano is invaluable, providing a comprehensive understanding of music theory and composition. By embracing these practices, musicians can deepen their appreciation for complex music and continue to grow as artists. To develop this skill, try singing in harmony with the lead singer when listening to a popular song, or focus on the supporting instruments during a guitar solo. Break down each instrument, listening to the entire song while focusing on one player's contribution. By doing so, you can restructure how the instruments work together to create their sound. 

Musical expression

Altogether, expanding one’s horizons to understand multifaceted musical compositions helps us understand a complex world in other ways. Musical expression is limitless; there  is never an end to what you can do. If you bear this in mind, you will discover limitless potential for artistic expression, and this could produce amazing music that you may not have known you were capable of. Music can be a spiritual experience.
